Habitat for Humanity Fundraiser on May 6th!
Join us for a night of music and dancing! Powder River Pizza & Pub will host the event, with music by The Fire Ants. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at Java Moon, Powder River Pizza & Pub, and the ReStore. We hope to see you there!

A beautiful entry from our ReStore manager, Lorraine King.
Spring, what a glorious season! The earth is warming to allow the little spring bulbs to show their beauty. The sky seems brighter and those ominous clouds only mean good things to come. Even the sweet smell of the good Earth is a welcome sign of spring. Spring means so many things to so many people. The resurrection of Jesus; the renewal of faith; the hopes for good crops; people getting together for weddings, picnics and barbeques are just a few of the things that spring and summer bring to us.
When I became manager of ReStore, Jessica asked me to participate in online classes for Habitat Learns. After the third session it became clear what the goal or theme of the classes was. The catch phrase “make it relevant” kept coming up in my class work finals.
So, I am trying to make each and every day at ReStore “relevant” to what Habitat for Humanity means to me and so many others. The words below are the ongoing themes and goals of Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore.
Repurpose: Finding something ordinary and making it in to something unique, whimsical or just plain useful.
Reuse: Reusing someone’s over stock or out of date building materials, appliances, furniture, doors, paints, etc. and taking joy in the fact that there is still life in an otherwise discarded item.
Recycle: Keeping usable items out of the landfill that is now becoming harder to maintain and harder to procure land for.
Resource: Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore is a wonderful resource for good used building materials, appliances, furniture, lighting, and miscellaneous. Our store is open to the public Thursday, Friday from 9 to 2:p.m. and Saturday from 9 to 4:00 p.m.
Reduce: Doing all of the above things, we are helping reduce our ‘carbon footprint’ with each step we take.
ReStore: ReStoring our sense of worth and values. Be it the smallest of nails or the largest of appliances, etc., each item still has a life in it. In so many ways, isn’t it ironic that spring, resurrection of Jesus, renewal of faith, life in the form of spring plants, and “Hope springs eternal” all seem to belong in the same sentence? My sentence, any way.
We are going to be celebrating “Earth Day” on Saturday, April 23, 2011. Please join us for special sales, chili dogs and burgers, (for a small donation) from 11 to 2:00 p.m. Regular store hours that day are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Also, if you aren’t aware of it, ReStore sells all its donated items to the public and the proceeds go to help build homes in both Sheridan and Johnson County. Sheridan has completed 27 homes and has four more ready to start.
We are always looking for volunteers at the ReStore and at the building sites. We welcome any and all interested parties. Participating also gives you some special perks at the ReStore.
Finally, the catch phrase “make it relevant” seems to fit like a well worn shoe. It is comfortable to the “sole” and is so very hard to throw away.

Habitat Present at Home & Garden Show
Habitat was blessed to be represented at the Home & Garden Show at The Holiday Inn on March 11, 12, & 13 by ReStore Manager Lorraine King.
The event was a success, according to Lorraine, and she added that she was surprised by the incredibly positive reaction of the community.
"It was awesome," she said. "I was able to make personal contact with over 400 people."
On top of the great exposure, Habitat will also receive half of the proceeds from the Home & Garden Show raffle.

Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Bighorns honored as "Volunteer of the Year" at the Salvation Army fundraiser on Saturday, March 5, 2011.
Eliza accepted the "Volunteer of the Year" plaque that The Salvation Army awarded Habitat for our partnership with their organization last Fall. With donated shingles and labor, Habitat was able to repair the roof of the Army's food storage building through the "A Brush With Kindness" program.
Captain David commented on the efficiency of Eliza, as well as his gratitude for Habitat's help with the project.
Eliza noted that it was an honor to be given the recognition.
"Habitat is a newer organization, and it is great to partner with a program as well established as The Salvation Army," Eliza said. "We greatly appreciate the recognition."

Habitat Wall Raising!
Please join us for the Wall-Raising Ceremony of Paula Crosley's future home at 1644 Parker Avenue on Saturday, February 12th, at 9 a.m. The raising of the first wall is an important step in the homeownership process, and we would love for community members to join us for the celebration of this happy occasion.
